Internal Structure of Leaf





Internally leaf is made up of thin layers of tissues.Each tissue Performs a special function.

  1. The upper most Layer Of cells Is Called Upper Epidermis.
  2. It Has A Water Proof Coating of wax.
  3. Just Below The Upper Epidermis Are The Cells Of the Palisade Layer.
  4. These Cells Are Long and Narrow And Stand side by side.
  5. Beneath The Palisade Layer is Spongy Layer.
  6. The Cells Of Spongy Layer Are Round With Large are Spaces Between Them.
  7. The Cells Of Palisade And Spongy Layer Contains Chloroplasts.
  8. Beneath The Spongy Layer is The Lower Epidermis.
  9. It Also Has a Waxy Covering.
  10. There Are Tiny Openings In The Lower Epidermis called stomata (Sing : Stomata).
  11. Gases Such As Oxygen,Carbon Dioxide,And Water Vapour,Enter and Leave The Leaf Through Stomata.(Transpiration)
